OffBeat Presents: St. Patrick’s Day

OffBeat presents a night of film and live music celebrating St. Patrick's Day and the Irish diaspora in Britain. Since we started, we’ve tried to celebrate what it is to be British, but how can we tell a complete story of our culture without looking at Britain’s relationship with its closest cousins in Ireland. Join us at SET Social in Peckham for a screening of films about Ireland and a performance of live folk music.

OffBeat Presents: Ship Hotel: Tyne Main

Following on from our sold out screening of The Moon and The Sledgehammer in January, OffBeat is back at The Walthamstow Trades Hall this time screening the 1967 documentary  Ship Hotel: Tyne Main. This film, also directed by Philip Trevelyan, shows the day in the life of a pub (which is belief is still there now called The Ship Inn in ) frequented by Tyneside miners and engineers. It’s a pleasure to watch and we’re very privileged to be able to screen it for you. The event takes place on the 10th of March at the Walthamstow trades hall. Tickets are £8 and, as usual, there will be cheap pizza (courtesy of Yard Sale), cheap beer (courtesy of Walthamstow Trades Hall) and great music and films (courtesy of OffBeat).

The Moon and The Sledgehammer

OffBeat is back! On the 13th of January 2025 we will be seeing in the new year with a screening of the incredible 1971 cult documentary The Moon and the Sledgehammer directed by Philip Trevelyan. The film shows the eccentric lives of the Page family who lived a completely isolated existence in the middle of a wood in Swanbrook in Sussex. Mr Page and his adult children Jim, Pete, Nancy and Kath, lived completely off grid and found employment by fixing mechanical things as odd jobs. We're gonna be back at The Walthamstow Trades Hall in our usual Monday Night slot with, as usual, badges, cheap pizza, cheap beer and amazing films including a curated selection from British Pathé's archive. We're starting the New Year in style so make sure you come along!
